I’m feeling angry


Feeling angry sometimes is healthy and normal, especially when you’re a teenager. But if it’s hurting you or other people, you can get help and support to stop feeling so angry.

Why am I so angry?

There are lots of reasons why you might feel angry, like being bullied, hurt, abused, laughed at, embarrassed, ill, frustrated, alone or let down. Or you might not be able to pinpoint a reason.

Feeling angry sometimes can be good if it helps you make positive changes in your life. But it can be a problem if your anger gets out of control and starts to harm you or the people around you, and stops you enjoying your life.

What does being angry feel like?

When we get angry, our bodies react – fists clenching, muscles tensing, heart beating faster and stomach turning.

Sometimes if people don’t get help with their anger, they can end up trying to cope by hurting themselves or being aggressive and violent towards other people, using drink or drugs, or taking unnecessary risks. Over time it can also lead to feeling depressed and anxious.

How can I control my anger?

If you are often angry to the point where you shout at people, throw or break things then it could help to find out what’s making you feel this way and how to manage anger.
